Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have yet again been crowned champions of the HollywoodBets Super League (HBSL) after beating TS Galaxy Queens 1-0 to reign supreme.
The latest success hands them the treble in this campaign, after they were crowned COSAFA CUP as well as the CAF Women’s Champions League champions, a repeat of their achievements in 2021.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi ensured Banyana Ba Style secured their third successive HBSL title, and they have now won the league title since the inception of the women’s football league in Mzansi.
The result sees Masandawana summit the log standings on 75 points after 28 matches.
Jerry Tshabalala’s charges registered 25 wins, suffered only one loss, three draws, scored 93 goals while conceding 15 in their matches played.
Captain Zanele Nhlapho expressed the significance of the year for the club.
“I am proud of myself, the girls and the Mamelodi Sundowns family. This year was one of the toughest ever because we faced so many tough teams across the various competitions we participated in, and we came out as the best in all of them. By this time last year, we were sad after losing the continental titles, but we bounced back this year and proved our mettle,” Nhlapho said on the club’s website.
With the season now done and dusted, all eyes will now be on who will walk away with awards for the 2023 HBSL Awards which will be held on Saturday, 9 December in Johannesburg.
Coach Tshabalala has been named among the nominees for the League’s Coach of the Season and Boitumelo Rabale among the nominees for Player of the Season.
