Traffic officers at the Klerksdorp-based City of Matlosana Local Municipality in the North West, have been left stranded without means of transport after the municipality confiscated eight vehicles this morning.

The municipality took the vehicles because it accused the officers of failing to do their duties because they went on strike.

However, an affected traffic official said they are not efficient because of a lack of tools of trade. They also complained that they last received uniforms in 2019.

“Now they have taken another tool of trade from us, how must we proceed with our job, now they have taken the vehicles, what is the way forward.

“No one cares for us, right now two police officers came to us alerting us of an accident and we couldn’t go there, what does that mean, the last time we received uniforms was in 2019, look at my pants now, this is a disgrace,” she said.

Another officer said they have been left stranded after handing over keys to the vehicles. “We have been reporting to work every day, we don’t know what is the way forward from here,” he said. The Municipality promised to respond at a later stage.
