American actress, singer and songwriter, Miley Ray Cyrus is now officially the youngest Disney Channel legend, after being honoured at the Disney Legends Awards ceremony California, USA
The award honours her role in the Hannah Montana teen sitcom which aired on the channel between 2006 and 2011.
In the show, Cyrus played Miley Stewart, who lived a double life as a famous pop artist known as Hannah Montana but tried to do typical day-to-day teenage activities without revealing her identity.
The Hannah Montana show, which was created by Michael Poryes, Barry O’Brien and Rich Corell, was Disney’s most commercially successful franchise.
It claimed accolades including the 2008 Teen Choice Awards for Best Comedy and the 2008/09 British Academy Children’s Awards under the BAFTA Kid’s Vote and Television categories.
In her acceptance speech at the ceremony, Cyrus noted Hannah Montana’s success as the biggest stepping stone to her musical career which has remarkably evolved since then.
“I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana because she made Miley in so many ways.
This award is dedicated to Hannah and all her amazing loyal fans and to everyone who has made my dream a reality.
To quote the legend herself, this is life,” said Cyrus.
The Pop icon continues to also break barriers through her artistry and fashion.
In addition to thanking those who contributed to her success especially from a tender age, Cyrus encouraged those who come after her, to never give up on their dreams.
“What I want to say is that legends get scared too.
I’m scared right now.
But the difference is, we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day.
It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway.
There is no such thing as failure when you try.
That’s the only way you lose.
The way you win is to try,’’ added an emotional Cyrus.
She was honoured alongside other fourteen industry greats like Angela Bassett and Kelly Ripa.
