Minister Bheki Cele upbeat after police officer walks away with the Idols SA 2022 title

A 29 year old police Warrant Officer Thapelo Molomo, who is a health and wellness psychologist at Brits, North West, has made the entire country proud by being crowned the new Idols SA 2022 winner. 

The 18 season winner from Mokopane, Limpopo walked away with the crown at an event held in Tshwane’s Arena on Sunday night, after defeating fellow contestant, Nozi Sibiya from KwaZulu-Natal. 

After being crowned the winner, Molomo thanked South Africans for their support, adding that he is grateful to God and people who have voted for him. 

The Minister of Police Bheki Cele, who attended the finale, in support of Molomo has praised the officer for being an inspiration to other police officers. “Molomo serves as an inspiration to police officers across the country to believe in their talents as they serve and protect the nation. 

“The member serves as a beacon of hope for many police officers who are on a daily basis faced with psychosocial challenges. He has illustrated to thousands of officers that hard work, determination and perseverance is the foundation of any successful human being.” said Cele. 

The Minister proudly said that the force cannot wait to have Molomo “back in office to continue serving our men and women in blue.”

Idols SA host and executive producer Proverb thanked South Africans for supporting up-and-coming artists adding that their votes have brought Thapelo to this life-changing moment. 

Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net Shirley Adonisi congratulated Thapelo, and wished him well on his post-Idols SA journey. 

When Newsnote spoke with Thapelo after he made it to the Top 6 Finalists, he mentioned that he started his music career in 2012 when he joined the Spirit of Praise choir as a backing vocalist and emphasised that he has no plans of quitting his job as a police warrant officer.
