Reigning Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux has sought to provide more details regarding the events that led to her decision to withdraw from the Miss Universe 2024 pageant.

She pulled out on the eve of the finale that was held in Mexico City, Mexico, last weekend. In the lasted video she posted on social media, the beauty queen expanded on the details of her medical condition.

“I wanted to be transparent with you and share my story. A lot of you would’ve seen the video that I made about vertigo, while I was in Mexico at Miss Universe. Vertigo is a condition where it feels like you are dizzy and
there’s a sense of the world spinning around you. It’s very intense and can cause major issues with your
imbalance. Mentally I was very strong, I was ready but physically, my body was taking strain. I had to even seek medical help in Mexico City but even after, my condition wasn’t improving,” said Le Roux.

Moreover, she adds that although she felt ready to proudly represent Mzansi on the global stage, her body wasn’t having it, and her vertigo intensified. Despite others who bemoaned South Africa’s absence at the event, Le Roux received a significant amount of understanding and messages of encouragement.

She acknowledged the love and expressed gratitude for the support. Le Roux further recommitted use her influence to fight for inclusivity and continue being a change-maker for marginalised groups in the country.
