More than hundred Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMME) operating at the Moretele Local Municipality in the North West, have been undertaken through the Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training program aimed at empowering the SMMEs.

According to the Municipality, the program is also aimed to grow the local economy, as it teaches the SMMEs on how to grow their businesses.

“The attendees were offered management skills, finance handling and customer care relationships among others.

It was rounded up by offering the attendees vouchers valued at R3 thousand each and certificates,” said the municipality spokesperson, Mothupi Malebye.

In addition, Malebe said the program’s facilitator Reuben Aphane was funded by the Small Enterprises Development Agency (SEDA) to empower disadvantaged businesses.

“Aphane’s consulting organization embarked on a journey to get funds from various SITAs to educate and empower disadvantaged businesses especially in rural areas where most people are far from cities and can’t access offices and institutions relevant to their businesses,” remarked Malebye.

The municipality’s Mayor George Manyike welcomed the program, adding that their work effortlessly to bring services to the people including local businesses.

Furthermore, Manyike said his office is working together with the Local Economic Development to create office space for SEDA in various areas of Moretele and that there are teams of experts assisting them with registration and compliance.
