Several motorists stranded at the Klipspruit Valley Road in Soweto have been rescued by the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) Aquatic Rescue Unit.
This followed severe thunderstorms that had been forecast by the South African Weather Service in Gauteng and other parts of the country.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi has urged motorists to avoid the road and exercise caution.
“At this stage, the road is flooded just after the VW dealership.
Motorists are urged to use alternative routes since that area is already flooded.
There are some motorists who are already stranded in that area.
We have our emergency services Aquatic Rescue Unit responding to that area to assist those motorists who are stranded,” said Mulaudzi.
No casualties or injuries were reported during the rescue mission.
The SAWS on Monday issued a yellow four warning which included Johannesburg with heavy downpours, following a heatwave.
