he case against the son of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, Bellarmine Mugabe, and family member Tobius Mathondozhe has been postponed to 03 March by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.

The two face charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and possession of a firearm.

They were arrested in connection with the alleged shooting of Mugabe’s bodyguard at his Hyde Park home in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The highly anticipated court appearance drew a packed courtroom, with members of the public and media in attendance.

State prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri told the court the state will oppose bail.

“The state is opposing their immediate release on bail. The state still needs to conduct profiling of both accused persons,” said Maphiri.

The accused’s legal representative, Sinethemba Mnguni, confirmed that the defence intends to apply for bail.

“We have had a preliminary discussion regarding the opposing of bail and have agreed to set the bail application for the 3rd of March,” Mnguni said.

Police are still searching for the firearm allegedly used in the shooting incident.
