The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a safety recall affecting certain Nissan Qashqai, Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600 vehicles due to defects that could pose safety risks to motorists.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba said Nissan is recalling 314 Qashqai SUVs as part of an ongoing recall campaign first launched in October 2025.
“According to the manufacturer, movement of the fuel pipe within its retaining clip may cause wear, which could eventually result in a fuel leak,” Ntaba said.
Nissan has since introduced a permanent repair solution to address the defect.
Meanwhile, Toyota is recalling 507 Land Cruiser 300 vehicles, while Lexus South Africa is recalling 124 LX600 vehicles.
The affected models were sold between December 2022 and May 2024, with some Lexus LX600 vehicles also exported to Botswana and Namibia.
According to the NCC, the affected Toyota and Lexus vehicles may contain engine machining debris that was not completely removed during manufacturing. This could lead to bearing failure, resulting in engine knocking, rough operation, difficulty starting, or the engine stalling while driving, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Consumers who own any of the affected vehicles are urged to contact or visit their nearest authorised Nissan, Toyota or Lexus dealership for an inspection and repairs, which will be carried out free of charge.
