Nine political parties and independent candidates have expressed a willingness to work together towards a possible coalition government in the Bojanala District, with a shared focus on improving service delivery, strengthening accountability and addressing corruption beyond the upcoming Local Government Elections.

The discussions took place during a coalition exploratory meeting convened by the Rustenburg People’s Party (RPP). The meeting brought together political formations seeking common ground on the possibility of establishing a coalition in Rustenburg Local Municipality and Moses Kotane Local Municipality following the elections scheduled for 4 November 2026.

The organisations invited to the meeting included the Rustenburg People’s Party (RPP), Bophuthatswana Civic Movement, African Economic Transformer (AET), South African Political Alliance (SAPA), Lethabong Service Movement (LSM), ARONA, TSOGANG and BAKANANA, alongside six independent candidates.

The Rustenburg People’s Party’s Chief Principal, Batlase Ntsimane, said the meeting aimed to bring political parties and movements in the Bojanala District together to explore the possibility of forming a coalition government that serves community interests.

Ntsimane emphasised the importance of building lasting relationships among the participating political formations, with the focus extending beyond the elections to the development of Rustenburg and surrounding communities.

He said the parties were optimistic about working together under a shared commitment to accountable governance and improved service delivery.

The proposed coalition is expected to prioritise cooperation among the political formations, with participants expressing confidence that working together could help address corruption and improve service delivery for residents.

However, the discussions remain exploratory, and the parties have yet to confirm a formal coalition agreement, including its leadership structure and operational arrangements.
