North West police are investigating the attempted murder of Madibeng Local Municipality Municipal Manager, Quiet Kgatla.
Police have launched an investigation after Kgatla was allegedly shot by unknown suspects and sustained injuries on Wednesday evening.
According to a preliminary report by the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident occurred on the Zilkaatsnek Road towards Hartbeespoort Dam.
“It is alleged that a charcoal-coloured VW Polo TSI with Gauteng registration plates overtook his vehicle, and two unidentified male occupants opened fire, discharging multiple rounds before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds, one to his leg and another to his arm. Despite his injuries, he managed to maintain control of his vehicle before bringing it to a stop near a petrol station in Zilkaatsnek,” said police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh.
Myburgh confirmed that Kgatla is in a stable condition and is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
The motive for the attack remains unknown, and investigations are continuing.
SAPS has appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information that could assist the investigation to contact the Crime Stop hotline or Lieutenant Colonel Ditau Malebati of the Brits Detectives.
