The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has committed to complete the disbursement of remaining payments to landlords of student accommodations before the end of the year.

According to NSFAS Administrator Freeman Nomvalo, teams have been deployed to some provinces to address the matter.

“NSFAS teams have been deployed to the Eastern Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal provinces to work with our colleagues at the various PSET Institutions in clearing and settling all legitimate claims.

NSFAS is inviting all landlords who are affected by outstanding payments in the above-mentioned provinces to a working session for further assistance.

These working sessions are scheduled from 11-14 December 2024 and NSFAS teams will provide clear responses to every landlord pertaining to their individual cases during the sessions,” said Nomvalo.

This year NSFAS undertook a roadshow across provinces to conduct oversight at the student housing of its beneficiaries.

The aim of the engagements was to discuss challenges faced by landlords, students and institutions, to develop solutions in preparation for the 2025 academic year.

Meanwhile, the race to complete payments coincides with the deadline for 2025 applications, which will lapse on midnight 15 December 2024.

Higher Education and Training Minister, Nobuhle Nkabane sought to remind prospective candidates to apply before the cut-off date.

She added that the Department’s top priority is to ensure and increase access to students and guarantee a smooth start of the 2025 academic year.
