After being attacked by two males in the hospital parking lot, a male nurse at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg is in stable condition.
The nurse was stabbed in the abdomen on Monday, according to Gauteng health spokeswoman Motalatale Modiba.
The attackers allegedly approached a nurse who was taking a break outdoors and attempted to rob him of his smartphone before stabbing him.
Prior to this, the two guys are accused of being disorderly at the hospital’s emergency room.
“They forcefully demanded medical professionals immediately attend to their friend when [the staff were] occupied with patients who came first and had more severe injuries.
“The two males also clashed with personnel and other [people] who accompanied patients at the accident and emergency department.
“One of them grew angry and smacked a [person] who was escorting a patient. “Once their effort to rob the health worker failed, security guards at the hospital interfered, and the perpetrators fled the scene,” Modiba added.
Health and wellbeing in Gauteng MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko denounced the attack, describing the attackers as crooks disguised as [friends] of the injured patient.
