As delegates engage in horse-trading, African National Congress(ANC) North West chairperson Nono Maloyi has said the province’s decision to back Cyril Ramaphosa as President is not cast in stone.
“The majority of branches said President Cyril Ramaphosa, they said Stan Mathabatha as the chairperson, Paul Mashitle as the Deputy President, they said Fikile Mbalula as the secretary and Benjani Chauke as the Treasury,” said Maloyi.
He added: “We said we would go to conferences with this list and negotiate with other provinces, to persuade them and allow them to persuade us”.
Maloyi was speaking on the sideline of the ANC national conference ahead of the vote for the top six and National Executive Committee members on Saturday.
On the Ditsobotla Municipality that had its by-elections last week after months of being in turmoil with no leadership, Maloyi said The ANC is working on the challenges in Ditsobotla.
“There is instability in almost all our municipalities in the North West because cadres who have been deployed there don’t know what it is that they are supposed to be doing.
“They are not focused on issues that affect our people. They (the issues) are not service delivery issues. I have said let’s deal with this issue and we are dealing with that issue.
“That is why we dissolved Ditsobotla because there was just instability, fighting amongst each other, fighting for positions and so on.
“They were not giving our people what they are supposed to be getting and that is why our people are very angry with the African National Congress.
“They are losing confidence in the ANC almost everyday. It is the character of people that we deploy, so these are the things we are trying to fix now as the ANC,” said Maloyi.
