The ad hoc committee established by the North West Provincial Legislature to investigate allegations made by Naledi Local Municipality Mayor Clifton Groep against Premier Lazarus Mokgosi has announced the conclusion of its work and the formal adoption of its final report.
The committee was formed to probe Groep’s accusations of improper conduct against Mokgosi, as well as allegations of political interference regarding the appointment of Modisenyana Segapo as the Municipal Manager.
According to Groep, Mokgosi instructed a former municipal employee, Thabo Appolus, to manipulate a crucial report relating to the recruitment of Segapo in 2023.
Several witnesses appeared before the ad hoc committee to provide evidence regarding these allegations, including Mokgosi, who denied any involvement in Segapo’s recruitment process.
“The report will now be submitted to the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Dr S.F.D. Mohono, for tabling before the House in accordance with the Rules of the Legislature.
“As the report has not yet been tabled before the House, the Committee will not comment on its contents, findings or recommendations. These will be considered by the House through the prescribed parliamentary processes,” the statement read.
The work of the committee was almost compromised by some witnesses who allegedly provided false testimony under oath.
The committee launched investigations into the suspected discrepancies and has since submitted its report to the National Director of Public Prosecutions for consideration.
Furthermore, the committee indicated that the findings of its investigations into the allegations against Mokgosi and his co-accused will be published in due course.
