Orlando Pirates players and coaches feature prominently among the nominees for the 2026 Premier Soccer League Awards, with the winners set to be announced later this month.
The PSL confirmed that the awards ceremony will take place on 27 July, and will be broadcast live on the SuperSport PSL Channel and SABC Sport.
Pirates duo Oswin Appollis and Relebohile Mofokeng have been nominated for the prestigious PSL Footballer of the Season award alongside Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena.
The category is voted for by head coaches from the 16 Betway Premiership clubs, who are not allowed to nominate or vote for players from their own teams.
Appollis and Mofokeng are also in contention for the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season award, where they will compete against Pirates teammate Kamogelo Sebelebele.
Pirates’ strong showing extends to the MTN8 Last Man Standing category, with Appollis, Sebelebele and Tshepang Moremi making up the entire shortlist following the club’s MTN8 triumph.
In the Coach of the Season category, Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Miguel Cardoso will battle Kaizer Chiefs co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, as well as Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.
Mofokeng has also been nominated for the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season award, alongside Isaac Cisse of Lamontville Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy’s Seluleko Mahlambi.
The Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament shortlist includes Marumo Gallants pair Washington Arubi and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, as well as Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
Durban City’s impressive Nedbank Cup run has been recognised, with Darren Keet, Siphamandla Ncanana and Brooklyn Poggenpoel nominated for Player of the Tournament. Their teammates Kyle Jurgens and Luphumlo Sifumba are up for the Most Promising Player of the Tournament award alongside Mahlambi.
In the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players’ Player of the Season category, Kruger United’s Khethukuthula Ndlovu, Hungry Lions’ Ronaldo van Neel and Cape Town City’s Emile Witbooi have been nominated.
The DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season nominees are Mamelodi Sundowns’ Bennet Mokoena and Orlando Pirates duo Lebo Mohlala and Mpho Padime.
The PSL said nominees in the major player and coach categories were selected through voting by coaches and players, while other categories were decided by panels comprising football journalists, broadcasters, analysts and commentators.
