Motorists heading to Orlando in Soweto today are being warned of major traffic disruptions as Orlando Pirates host Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 semi-final.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) says several roads around the Orlando Amstel Arena will be affected, with closures starting from 10am.
Affected routes include the N17, Soweto Highway, Klipspruit Valley Road, Martha Louw Street and Mooki Street.
Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm, with gates opening at 11am. Motorists, commuters and spectators are urged to plan their journeys and arrive early to avoid congestion and delays.
The JMPD will deploy officers to manage traffic and assist with the movement of spectators before and after the match.
The disruptions are expected to affect local commuters and businesses operating in and around Orlando, particularly those dependent on road access and deliveries during the match.
After the final whistle, Klipspruit Valley Road will operate as a one-way route towards the N17 traffic circle, while sections of Soweto Highway will be closed and traffic diverted through alternative routes.
Spectators are advised to use designated parking areas around Orlando, including schools and the Orlando Rugby Field.
The JMPD is appealing to motorists and residents to remain patient and familiarise themselves with the traffic management plan before travelling to the area.
Businesses in the affected areas are also encouraged to plan deliveries, staff movements and customer access around the anticipated traffic restrictions.
