The Presidency has sought to assure the nation that Deputy President is well, after he collapsed while delivering his keynote address at the N’wamitwa Day Celebrations held at Valoyi Cultural Village, Tzaneen, in Limpopo.
This after he was seen struggling towards the end of his speech, before he was taken off the podium by security officers and emergency officials.
“While delivering his keynote address, the Deputy President felt lightheaded from the heat and was attended to by his medical team.
We can confirm that the Deputy President has received the necessary medical attention and is well,” said Mashatile’s acting spokesperson, Keith Khoza.
Khoza said Mashatile has already left Tzaneen for Pretoria.
There are speculations that the collapse might have been caused by dehydration, due to the scorching heat in the area.
According to the South African Weather Service, the temperature in Tzaneen where the ceremony was held was a scorching 36 degrees.
The Presidency said the President and his Deputy travel with a team from the South African Medical Services, who are responsible for their medical care.
