Rustenburg police in the North West have opened a murder docket after the discovery of the bodies of a couple in a house in Rustenburg Noord.

While a full investigation is yet to be conducted authorities have alleged they suspect the man first shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.

North West Police spokesperson Captain Aatje Botma confirmed the incident and said it is not clear what led to the shooting.

“Police can confirm that a case of murder and an inquest is being investigated. Allegedly a 36- year-old man shot his 40-year-old wife yesterday night in their home, in Rustenburg Noord. He then shot himself. Police are still busy with the investigation and the motive of the shooting is unknown,” said Captain Botma.

The couple is yet to be identified as authorities are still trying to locate their families. Newsnote will give an update as the investigation unfolds.
