Floyd Shivambu, the former Secretary-General of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), announced that over ten political parties have expressed their interest in participating in the Mayibuye National Consultation Process. The media briefing held in Midrand, Johannesburg, was marked by a tone of optimism and hope for the future collaboration of diverse political entities across South Africa.
Shivambu revealed that the interest comes from various factions represented in different municipal councils, signalling a growing appetite for dialogue and cooperation among political parties. “These parties come from all corners of South Africa,” he elaborated, highlighting the broad appeal of the Mayibuye initiative.
In addition to the established parties, the response from ordinary citizens has been equally encouraging. Shivambu reported that a significant number of volunteers have registered through an online platform designed to engage South Africans interested in contributing to the consultation process. “We’ve also received a list of volunteers through the online platform, which established a form that was filled out,” he explained. The outreach to citizens was met with enthusiasm, inviting participation from individuals with access to online and social media platforms, indicating a grassroots movement towards participation in governance.
The Mayibuye National Consultation Process aims not only to foster dialogue among political entities but also to re-engage communities across the nation with their political representatives. As the various political parties come together to embark on this initiative, it remains to be seen how their collective efforts will reshape the future of South Africa’s political discourse.
