President Ramaphosa said to have recused himself from the NEC special sitting

President Cyril Ramaphosa has recused himself from the ANC NEC special sitting in Nasrec to discuss the Section 89 panel report into Phala Phala.

It was reported that ANC national spokesperson Pule Mabe said this afternoon that after tabling the organisational report to the NEC this morning, Ramaphosa recused himself from the meeting as he did on Friday during the sitting of the NWC.

Ramaphosa told reporters that it was the ANC tradition that those whose matters were being discussed shouldn’t be in the house.

The NEC is sitting to deliberate the findings from the panel chaired by retired Chief Justice Ngcobo working together with retired Judge Thokozile Masipa and Advocate Mahlape Sello SC which found that Ramaphosa has a case to answer on the Phala Phala saga.

It is not clear how long the meeting will be and if in fact it will reach any decision on what steps to take regarding the Phala Phala.

A business publication reported earlier that their sources within the chief whip’s forum have told them that the much-awaited Tuesday’s debate on the Section 89 report could be cancelled if the President goes ahead with his plan to take the report on review.
