South Africa secured an unassailable 2–0 lead in their three-match ODI series against Australia after defeating the visitors by 32 runs in a high-scoring Pink ODI at Johannesburg.
Put into bat, the Proteas posted an imposing 365 for nine in their 50 overs, with captain Temba Bavuma and David Miller producing outstanding centuries.
Bavuma was brought to the crease early after Aiden Markram was dismissed for a duck. The South African captain steadied the innings before accelerating as the innings progressed. He shared a crucial 156-run partnership with Miller, with the pair adding the runs in just 20 overs.
Bavuma eventually departed for 103 off 116 balls, having struck 10 fours and two sixes.
Miller continued the assault after his captain’s dismissal, producing a career-best 142. His innings included 12 fours and nine sixes, taking his tally of ODI centuries to eight. Four of those centuries have now come against Australia.
Australia began their chase strongly, with openers Mitch Marsh and Travis Head putting on 130 runs from just 17 overs. Both batsmen reached 84 before South Africa found the breakthrough, with Markram and Bjorn Fortuin claiming the crucial wickets.
The Australian middle order then struggled against South Africa’s spin attack. Despite some resistance from the lower order, Australia were eventually bowled out for 333, leaving the Proteas 32 runs short of victory.
The result gives South Africa an unassailable 2–0 series lead ahead of the final ODI.
The Proteas’ combination of powerful batting and effective spin bowling proved decisive, while Bavuma and Miller’s contributions provided the foundation for another memorable victory over Australia.
