Proteas Women captain Laura Wolvaardt has praised the team following their 5-0 clean sweep against Zimbabwe in the T20I series.
This came after the team beat the hosts by 13 runs in the fifth and final match, having posted 164/6 in their allotted overs.
Zimbabwe could only respond with 151/8 in a closely contested finish.
Despite dominating the series, Wolvaardt said the team had learned valuable lessons, particularly with the opportunities given to new players.
“I’m very pleased with the result. I think this tour was sort of all about learnings and opportunities for our group, and we did that. I think a lot of different people got chances. Some of them took them with both hands when they did get that opportunity,” said the victorious captain.
Wolvaardt said it was encouraging to see the youngsters putting their hands up, bringing energy to the team and showing an eagerness to learn.
She also acknowledged that this was Zimbabwe’s best performance of the series, saying they punished the tourists whenever they made mistakes.
“I think as soon as we missed with the ball, they punished us today. We probably weren’t at our best. The first 10 overs of our bowling innings, like I said, every time we made a mistake, they really made it count for them.
“So, yeah, I’m glad the bowlers were able to dig deep and bring it back at the end there,” remarked the captain.
Nthabiseng Nini was named Player of the Match after a brilliant performance for the team, while Anneke Bosch walked away with the Player of the Series award following her impressive performances throughout the series.
