The corruption case involving Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and 15 co-accused over an alleged R228 million Medicare 24 Tshwane District contract has been postponed to 17 November 2026.
The Pretoria Regional Court postponed the matter to allow the Review Panel to complete its assessment of the validity of the charges and for the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) to issue an instruction on the way forward.
According to the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), the review forms part of its IDAC Reset Project, which involves a review of cases by a panel comprising senior prosecutors from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and senior attorneys from the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).
The process is intended to establish whether all legal requirements were followed and whether the evidence in each case meets the minimum threshold required to secure convictions.
Matlala and his 15 co-accused face corruption charges arising from the alleged irregular awarding of a contract worth approximately R228 million to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company owned by Matlala.
IDAC said the review is part of efforts to ensure that corruption cases are dealt with in accordance with the law and that prosecutions are supported by evidence that meets the required legal threshold.
The accused remain before the court as the Review Panel completes its assessment.
