President Cyril Ramaphosa said he’ll convene a cabinet meeting this week, following the swearing into office of the 7th administration.
Ramaphosa’s comments come after the new Deputy President, Ministers and Deputy Ministers were sworn into office in Cape Town today.
The ceremony was officiated by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
“The first cabinet meeting is this coming week.
The marching orders would be when we open parliament,” said Ramaphosa who was addressing the media after the ceremony.
Ramaphosa said the ceremony was a historic moment, as his cabinet includes more than 10 parties that are part of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
“Today was a historic moment in constituting the Executive of our country in the form of Ministers and Deputy Ministers, who have all collectively been assuring me that they are going to work, and they are going to make South Africans proud.
So, I’m a happy man today, as president of this country,” explained the President.
Ramaphosa acknowledged that it wasn’t a task to negotiate with other political parties to form a GNU, following the May 29 general elections.
“It has been a very difficult and complicated process.
It’s now come to an end and to a start.
It’s a fresh start for all of us in South Africa.
It’s been a very long, difficult, complicated, but I think a satisfying journey not only for us, but for the people of South Africa,” said Ramaphosa.
The President sought to assure the country that the new cabinet is ready to hit the ground running.
“The trust that our people have invested in all these men and women, we will not waste time.
We will work very hard to take our country forward,” added Ramaphosa.
