Residents will experience low water pressure to intermittent supply as Rand Water is set to begin critical infrastructure maintenance between the 29th of May to 2nd June and some continued recovery work scheduled for July.
These repairs will interrupt water supply at crucial pumping systems of Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton and Zwartkopjes which distribute water to numerous municipalities of Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and the North West.
The entity’s CEO Sipho Mosai emphasized the significance of the maintenance, explaining that it is part of efforts to bolster operational efficiency, reliability and capacity.
He adds that this is done in winter to ensure that the systems maximise performance in August when they expect the water demand to increase.
Mosai appealed to the public to use water sparingly and avoid activities that may require a lot of water such as watering gardens, washing cars and cleaning driveways using hose pipes.
According to the entity, maintenance activities will commence at different times and locations across various municipalities.
“During the maintenance period, pumping capacity will be reduced at the Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, and Zwartkopjes systems.
As a result, areas within the cities of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane may experience low water pressure or intermittent supply.
The maintenance may also impact water provision to the local municipalities of Rand West, Mogale City, Merafong, Madibeng, Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Rustenburg, Royal Bafokeng Administration, and Victor Khanye, Thembisile Hani, Midvaal and Emfuleni,” read a statement from Rand Water.
