The MEC for Human Settlements, Nono Maloyi, has promised the residents of Yizo Yizo informal settlement near Tlhabane in Rustenburg, North West, that they’ll be relocated to a new settlement near their area, starting from Monday, 3 July 2023.

Maloyi was addressing the residents at the Tlhabane Stadium, on Tuesday, 27 June 2023, following their complaints about poor service delivery in the area  He said the government has secured new land for the residents and new RDP houses will soon be constructed..

“Firstly let me apologise for not coming earlier as promised but I needed answers before meeting you, and solutions as to how we will solve your problems. I wanted to find out from my office as to how many years you’ve been staying here, and they told me that it has been many years.

“As the Chairperson of the ANC and Papa Action, I want to use my power as the Acting Premiere, to sort out the issues at Human Settlements, as there are many houses which need to be fixed.

“We have extended the scoop for a contractor to start with work as soon as Monday, I need to see action. When we leave Bojanala, there should be progress. You’re lucky as I came here as the MEC and the acting Premiere, now I will give a report back to the Exco as I want to see people relocated to a better place,” said Maloyi.

Maloyi also assured residents that he’ll return to the area later this year, to check on the relocation process.

Some of the residents who’re not happy with the relocation say they have lived most of their lives in Yizo Yizo and were very skeptical about promises of a better place but they said they will wait and see.
