The son of late former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, and another suspect have been arrested at his luxurious Hyde Park home in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The incident follows an alleged shooting during a confrontation at the residence earlier today. It is understood the gardener had failed to report for duty for several days, and an altercation broke out when he returned to work.

Newsnote has been reliably informed that the dispute escalated, and Mugabe allegedly shot the victim in the back as he attempted to flee.

A neighbour said he witnessed the aftermath of the incident.

“You see the black BMW at the corner — that’s where the guy was lying. There was a pool of blood, but it has been washed. I don’t know if the police told them to wash it,” he said.

“At first they said it was a security guard, now they say it is a gardener. Apparently there was an argument between the employer and the employee, and that’s where everything started.”

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that two suspects were being questioned but not cooperating and expected to appear at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court soon.

“If they were corporative they could have told us where is the gun, but there are victims who have been shot.”

She indicated that the suspects were not fully cooperative, including failing to disclose the whereabouts of the firearm used in the shooting.

Mugabe and another suspect, believed to be his friend, are currently detained at Bramley Police Station.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
