A SASSA office in Mogwase, North West is investigating allegations of misconduct and illtreatment of beneficiaries against one of its employees.

The employee is accused of being rude and for telling beneficiaries that if it was her money, she would not give any to them.

The affected beneficiaries took to social media to complain about the employee’s conduct and complained about how disappointed especially when she is rude to the elderly and those who come to claim their grants.

SASSA’s Regional Communication Practitioner, Solly Sanyane, said they are investigating the incidents and they take the matter seriously and it has been escalated internally to ensure it doesn’t happen again..

SASSA also has apologised to the beneficiaries affected by the incident while the Department of Social Development has also weighed in on the matter saying it is probing the allegations..

Spokesperson, Petrus Siko, said there are laws and norms that need to be adhered to, by all employees of government, such as Batho Pele principles, Public Service Act as well as the Code of  Conduct.

Siko said it is disappointing to say the least but they will make sure that the employee is called to order, so that people can receive quality service.

All public servants are required to follow Batho Pele guidelines, which state under the Service Standards, that they should continually try to improve the service they give as well as how well they deliver services at any given time.

Batho Pele Courtesy guideline also implores employees that courtesy is not only being polite to customers, but being friendly, helpful and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
