South African coach Rulani Mokwena’s departure from Morocco’s soccer team, Wydad Casablanca, has officially been confirmed.

The decision of a mutual agreement to terminate his contract with immediate effect was announced through a joint statement between Mokwena and Wydad on X.

“The club expressed its deepest gratitude to coach Mokwena and his technical staff for their unwavering commitment, hard work and sacrifices during a challenging season.

Their professionalism and dedication have left an indelible mark on the club,” read the statement.

During his 10 months tenure at the club, Mokwena won and drew 14 games while losing seven out of the 35 competitive matches he oversaw at Wydad.

He found himself under a lot of pressure with increased calls for his resignation by fans due to the team’s performance but despite this, he remained committed to his course.

The joint announcement quoted him expressing his gratitude amid his exit at Wydad.

“As I say goodbye, I carry unforgettable memories from Wydad.

A club that will forever remain in my heart.

I wish the team, staff and fans tremendous success in the new season and the club world cup.

May you continue to make history and inspire us all.

Dima Wydad,” said Mokwena.

His departure coincides with that of former Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, who took an early leave from his contract with Orlando Pirates this month.

There’s been a lot of speculation about Mokwena potentially being Riveiro’s next replacement, but nothing has been confirmed by either Pirates or Mokwena.
