A group of business forums from Meriting, Seraleng, Tlhabane, Kroondal and Lefaragatlha on Wednesday failed to disrupt production at Glencore Smelter Mine in Rustenburg after they protested outside the mine gates hoping to get attention from management.
As the group sang and danced outside the mining company’s gates, production continued without hindrance inside the premises.
The groupings are accusing the company of not extending opportunities to local enterprises in line with its Social Labour Plans and for allegedly firing one of their members Olefile Monye unfairly.
Sizwe Dlamini who represents one of the local business forums says attempts to get the company to do the right thing have so far been unsuccessful.
“We are trying to put this matter to rest once and for all hence we’re intervening. We don’t find pleasure in it and if we keep quiet and allow it we might set a wrong precedent, as we can’t enjoy seeing an opportunity from one of our own being taken away from him.
Dlamini has added that they’ve managed to request a meeting between Monye and his own team, together with the management of the mine to resolve the matter.
Glencore Rustenburg Smelter mine management, declined to comment.
