The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has sought to denounce the spread of what it views as “false” information regarding its work.
This emanates from circulating videos on social media, one in which the force is being criticised with government agency, Border Management Authority, for not protecting the border between South Africa and Eswatini, against drugs and human trafficking.
Another video making rounds is of the estimation of the soldier’s salaries, which the Defence Department also refuted.
“The videos are further meant to demoralise our dedicated military professionals.
It is clear that those who are sending these videos are on a propaganda drive and clearly targeting the South African population and members of the SANDF to doubt their national Defence Force,” read a statement issued by the SANDF.
The SANDF has been in the spotlight for a few months, especially for their peacekeeping mission in Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC.
Their training and competence were questioned, following the deaths of 14 soldiers, who died during a crossfire with the M23 attacks in the eastern city of Goma two months ago.
Despite the negative publicity, the SANDF remains resolute in its obligation to protect and serve the nation.
“The SANDF remains steadfast in its commitment to fulfil its mandate with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
Our operational capabilities and equipment continue to be of a high standard.
We categorically condemn those behind such nefarious intent of destroying the reputation of the SANDF,” explained the statement.
Furthermore, the SANDF called on South Africans to rally behind their soldiers and not take part in any propaganda aimed to demoralise them in their work.
