The South African Police Service (SAPS) has dismissed Major General Feroz Khan with immediate effect following disciplinary proceedings over allegations that his conduct brought the police service into disrepute.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed Khan’s dismissal, saying it followed his failure to appear before the designated senior officer handling his disciplinary process.
Khan had been facing disciplinary proceedings relating to allegations concerning his conduct while serving as a senior member of SAPS.
Mathe said the disciplinary process was conducted within the applicable framework and stressed that members of the police service, regardless of rank, are expected to comply with disciplinary procedures.
The dismissal brings Khan’s tenure in the police service to an end with immediate effect.
SAPS said the action demonstrates its commitment to accountability and ensuring that all members are subject to the same disciplinary standards.
The police service has previously stressed the importance of maintaining public confidence and ensuring that members conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of SAPS.
Khan’s dismissal comes as the police service continues to face scrutiny over the conduct and accountability of senior officers.
Mathe reiterated that rank or position does not exempt any SAPS member from the law or the organisation’s disciplinary framework.
