Spain is the most recent nation to join South Africa’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) complaint against Israel. As the fighting in Gaza rages on, Madrid has invoked Article 63 of the International Criminal Court.
Spain declared in its declaration that one of the most important pieces of international law for the prevention and punishment of genocide is the Genocide Convention. Several nations have joined South Africa’s case, including Colombia and Nicaragua.
Public hearings on South Africa’s request for the modification and indication of interim measures were recently held by the ICJ.
The judges of the ICJ commanded Israel to immediately cease its military assault on Rafah. This historic emergency verdict supported South Africa’s allegations that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza.
This coincides with the appointment of Ronald Lamola as South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. He has visited the Hague multiple times and is well-versed on the matter.
