Stellenbosch FC and Orlando Pirates have both booked a spot in the MTN8 semifinal.

This after Stellies defeated TS Galaxy 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, while Pirates scored the same score against a stubborn SuperSport United at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

Galaxy was the first to register the score sheet, when Kamogelo Selebelele netted in the 17th minute.

Stellies, who finished last season on third place, quickly recovered and were awarded when Jayden Adams equalised in the 25th minute of the game.

Andre De Jong scored the Rockets second goal, before Fawaaz Basadien scored the third goal, to ensure that the team advanced to the semifinal of the competition.

“We didn’t play the way I wanted us to play. When you play your fist game of the season it’s never easy, it’s just about getting through into the next round which we did. A nice, good learning curve for us today, and a good result, back in another semifinal,” said Stellies coach Steve Barker.

Meanwhile, at the Orlando Stadium, defending champions Pirates needed extra-time, to overcome a spirited SuperSport.

This after both teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Monnapule Saleng and Evidence Makgopa then sealed the victory for Pirates at the packed stadium.

“It was a proper football game, intense and tough. It’s amazing to play the first game at home, it’s almost full. The boys deserve it, it’s a good way to start a new season, we’re in the semifinals. I am very happy with the performance,” said elated Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United will meet Cape Town City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday, while Mamelodi Sundowns will face Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday.
