The case against Stuart James Scharnick has been postponed to 1 September as the State continues investigations and verifies information relating to the accused.
Scharnick was arrested last Thursday and is facing charges of contravening the Firearms Act. His arrest attracted significant attention after he was taken into custody in a high-profile operation following allegations that he intimidated a journalist.
During his court appearance, it emerged that Scharnick has previous convictions. The State is still working to verify information about his background and said further investigations are required before the matter can proceed.
Scharnick appeared in court wearing a black jersey and black jeans. He stood quietly in the dock with his hands folded and appeared to follow the proceedings closely as the State outlined the reasons for the postponement.
The court granted the State additional time to continue its investigation, with Scharnick expected to return on 1 September.
The firearms charge remains before the court, while the allegations surrounding the journalist have not been tested in court.
