Classes continue to be disrupted at the ORBIT TVET College Mankwe Campus in Mogwase, near Rustenburg, North West by striking students.
The students, who have been on strike for the past three weeks, are protesting over student accommodation, expiry of security, catering contracts and unpaid NSFAS allowances.
The Chairperson of the crisis committee at the campus, Kamao Makhosonke wakwa Zwane, when elaborating on their frustrations, said that their main issue is the non-payment of NSFAS allowances, which is affecting most of the students.
“Some of the students have even left the residency because they could no longer cope. We’re struggling, we don’t have food, sanitary pads, and other basics , so how are we supposed to concentrate and perform on our academics?
“The management doesn’t take our concerns as seriously as they should because they’re not affected. We have decided to embark on a protest action, because the financial strain is too much, some have even left campus due to this fact, said Makhosonke.
The management of the campus refused to comment on the matter.
