Three days after formally reclaiming their championship, Sundowns’ opponents on Tuesday night, Cape Town City, presented them with a guard of honor at Loftus.
Head coach Rhulani Mokwena fielded what was likely his strongest team—bar Thapelo Morena, who sat on the bench—but they fell short against the Capetonians in the 0-0 draw.
They were unable to score the goal that would crown the DStv Premiership triumph.
But their superiority and reliability were unaffected by the draw. Their 18 shots to 9 and 67% ball possession actually virtually emphasised the point.
Thirteen league championships have been won during the PSL period, with the most recent one being won in a record-breaking seven matches and with more than a month of the season left.
Sundowns are still on track to surpass their 2015–16 season record for most league points (71) at the end of the year.
