Suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday alongside controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and 15 co-accused on charges linked to alleged violations of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The case forms part of a broader investigation into alleged irregularities in police procurement procedures.
According to the state, the charges relate to the alleged unlawful awarding of a contract worth approximately R228 million to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company reportedly linked to Matlala.
Prosecutors allege that the procurement process failed to comply with prescribed financial and supply chain management regulations.
The matter was previously postponed to 13 May 2026 to allow for further investigations and for all accused to be formally joined on the same charge sheet.
