The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) members at the Ikageng informal settlement near Rustenburg, North West, marched to the Rescue Co-Ordinator Centre, on Wednesday after accusing the organisation of stealing a house and stand belonging to three orphans.
EFF convenor Mmabatho Sathekge said the orphans are living in unbearable conditions after they were allegedly chased away from their home.
“On Tuesday after receiving a call, we went to where they are currently staying and I must say the place is in a bad condition. Children cannot be expected to stay there, and these officials need to do something ASAP.
“We will not stop until these kids get their stand. How can they give someone’s stand to another person? They should come up with a plan very fast, so that these kids can return to their place. We will fight for them as they’re still young and cannot fight for themselves,” said Sathekge.
One of the orphans, Dimakatso Masiemo, said after their father’s passing everything went south, as they were allegedly chased out of their house by their aunts, who took everything from the house.
Masiemo said when they returned to their place, that’s when they found out that their stand was given to someone else, and when they went to the office to inquire, they were chased away.
She said she even went to ask her stepmother for assistance since she’s the one who knows the truth, as they were staying with her after their father’s passing, but that didn’t help.
Ward 44 Councillor and the Centre Manager when approached were very rude and refused to answer questions from the Newsnote team.
The EFF held a meeting with the councillor and the centre’s manager who promised to meet with them again, on Wednesday next week, to get an update.
