An increase in the death toll from the cholera outbreak has prompted the national Health Department to call on South Africans to practice good personal hygiene.

The department has recorded 26 deaths and over 130 positive cases so far. However, despite the downward trend, most of the cases were still being reported from Hammanskraal in northern Tshwane.

There is also a high risk of the bacterial disease spreading to other provinces, according to the department. Investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the waterborne disease.
