Residents of Modderfontein in Kroondal, near Rustenburg, North West, whose shacks were gutted by fire on Monday that destroyed 17 and left 34 families homeless are still out in the open and need help.
Newsnote found that days after the families, some with babies, lost their homes, they are still homeless without proper shelter.
We then contacted the Provincial Department of Social Development spokesperson, Petrus Siko, who said they’ll work with the Rustenburg Local Municipality to assist the victims.
He said the department officials are on the ground making sure that they’re profiling the victims so they can be able to provide them with all the necessities as well as counselling.
Ward 36 councillor and secretary Tshepiso Mmebe, has urged those who can assist with blankets, clothes and food to come forward.
He said the people who have been assisting with accommodation arrangements have asked the families to start looking for another place as they can no longer accommodate them.
Mmebe pleads with the government to assist by providing a temporary shelter until the victims can get on their feet.
