The Rustenburg Local Municipality fails to appoint a Speaker because Council couldn’t reach a quorum

Opposition parties in the Rustenburg Local Municipality, North West have slammed the ANC after the majority of its councillors failed to show up for a meeting meant to elect a Speaker  following the axing of  Koketso Mogomotsi by the party.

The only ANC councillor present at the meeting was Sheila Mabale-Huma. The sitting had to be abandoned as it did not form a quorum with no explanation forthcoming for the absence of the majority of ANC the councillors.

DA Councillor Nelio Nhacuangue said the absence of a Speaker has rendered the council dysfunctional and the absence of the ANC councilors was a surprise as the council was supposed to elect a new Speaker..

“The DA would like to reiterate the call to the ANC councilors, to say that Council can’t function without a Chairperson. The DA calls on ANC councilors to put service delivery and residents of Rustenburg first, instead of putting politics first. We call on ANC councilors to come to the Council meeting that should be called in the next seven days,” said Nhacaugue.

Oteng Mokgatle of Tsogang Civic Movement, has called on residents to punish the ANC at the polls and called on Rustenburg residents to open their eyes and see what the ruling party is all about as it fails because of incompetence.
