The ANC has threatened harsh action against some of its councillors in Rustenburg, North West including Speaker Koketso Mogomotsi and Mayor Sheila Mabale Huma.

Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said a decision will be taken by the party’s national working committee which is in the North West as part of a drive to rebuild structures and reconnect with communities.

Infighting among ANC Councillors in Rustenburg has resulted in the provincial executive committee ordering Mogomotsi to resign, an instruction that he’s defied prompting Mbalula to warn there will be consequences.

“That Speaker and the Mayor and everybody here, they must understand that you the ANC is in charge, nobody’s going to do as they wish here, by the time we leave here, this Rustenburg, will be either ANC or it will be something else. We aren’t going to be held at ransom by individuals, who have got an uncontrollable desire for power, and even if it brings the ANC to the mud, they don’t care, we are not gonna put up with that.

“Have I made myself clear, I need to be very clear on that, it must be clear to those comrades, I told them yesterday, and it is going to be clearer and clearer by the time we leave,” said Mbalula adding that the national leadership will help the province to dismantle pre-conference factions.

“We’re going to work and help the province to unite. The Chairperson is correct, like he said that there are still hangovers about the conference that took place and there are still people who still don’t regard the leadership as leadership.

“You get to the stage where you give up, and then that’s what I’m saying, we’re going to implement Marumo Fatshe Program, in the North West. We will assist that project because in it there’s a lot of allegations that are made.

“The perception, whether true or false, that people think that they’re being bashed and chased around by the leadership and so on, across that is that complain, so the issue of patronage is a phenomenal that visit us, that visited us as early as 1996, it is ravaging the movement in this province and across the country. We need to develop a clear approach of how we deal with that phenomenon,” said Mbalula.

The ANC is running Rustenburg through a fragile coalition arrangement and Mbalula said the party will act even if it cost it the municipality.
