Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Deputy Commissioner, Umashi Dhlamini, has been placed on suspension, following serious allegations levelled against him at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

According to the TMPD spokesperson, Colonel Isaac Mahamba, Dhlamini requested to be placed on suspension with immediate effect following the damning allegations.

“TMPD Commissioner Yolande Faro has considered Deputy Commissioner Dhlamini’s request and duly approved it.

Dhlamini was responsible for Support and Administration. His suspension took effect on Friday, 20 March 2026,” said Mahamba.

Dhlamini was mentioned in the testimony of Gauteng Organised Crime Unit officer Sergeant Fannie Nkosi at the commission.

According to Nkosi, Dhlamini and other senior officials from the City of Tshwane conspired to influence the awarding of a security tender, to a non-compliant company.

Mahamba says the suspension is a normal procedure by the municipality.

“The suspension is intended to allow for a fair, thorough, and uninterrupted investigation into the allegations.

The suspension is part of a standard risk-management measure to safeguard the integrity of the investigative process.

It does not constitute a disciplinary sanction or imply any finding of guilt,” explained Mahamba.

Dhlamini’s suspension comes on the heels of the suspension of the MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, Kholofelo Morodi, for allegedly “sharing confidential tender documents” with Nkosi.
