As the Easter holidays approach, the Department of Tourism has urged travellers to exercise caution and apply personal safety tips, as they prepare to explore some of the country’s top tourist attraction sites.

The Department says it has more than 10 000 certified tourist guides, who are on standby to help travellers get the best experience the country has to offer where tourism is concerned.

However, it sought to recommend safety measures that citizens and potential tourists can apply.

“Update the GPS App on your mobile device to accurately navigate through our country.

Be extra vigilant for stop signs which can be placed in unexpected locations.

Beware of hazardous potholes and reduce speed for caution.

Remain mindful of livestock that could wander onto the road in rural areas.

Wearing a seatbelt is mandatory for all occupants,” read a statement from the department.

In addition, the department also advised motorists to adhere to the road speed limits, and follow all the advisory protocols during breakdowns

Furthermore, holidaymakers are also encouraged to heed weather warnings and pack appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoor activities.

The Department also reminded citizens to carry the necessary documents including passports, a valid driver’s licence and an ID, amongst others, before embarking to their different destinations.

Apart from the Easter holidays which are scheduled between 18-21 April 2025, South Africans will score an extra day to be home and spend time with family, as this year’s Freedom Day is on a Sunday and will fall on a Monday as a public holiday.
