US President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk’s fallout is playing itself out in the public unrestrained. The two have accused each other of dishonesty just days after the South African born left the Trump administration.
Trump said he was disappointed with Musk’s remarks on the sweeping tax-cut and spending bill. Trump told reporters that he doesn’t know if his close relationship with Musk will continue after he labelled the president’s tax bill as a disgusting abomination.
“I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here, better than you people. He knew everything about it. He had no problem with it. All of a sudden, he had a problem. And he only developed the problem when he found out that we’re going to have to cut the EV mandate,” said Trump to reporters on Thursday. The breakup is happening in real time on the right-winger’s social platform X. Musk responded swiftly to Trump denying ever endorsing or even knowing of the controversial bill that he has since slammed as an abomination.
“False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it,” said Musk in an X response.
He accused Trump of being ungrateful claiming it was through him that the businessman-come politician made it into the White House.
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude,” Musk wrote in a post responding to Trump’s remarks about him,” wrote Musk.
He even reminded Trump of when he did a commercial for his electric vehicle Tesla at the White House.
Trump went as far as mocking his former friend about a recent black eye he claimed was a result of being punched by his 4 year old son.
“You saw a man who was very happy when he stood behind the Oval desk. Even with a black eye. I said, do you want a little makeup? He said, ‘No, I don’t think so,’ which is interesting … Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” said Trump.
