Authorities at the City of Tshwane are investigating the cause of the fire that destroyed one bus, leaving another partially damaged, in the early hours of Tuesday.

The City’s Emergency Services Department said it responded to the incident involving the two buses that were parked alongside WF Nkomo Street, in Pretoria West.

The department spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni said that they received a call at about 05:01.

According to Mnguni, firefighting resources were dispatched from Central Fire Station and Philip Nel Park Fire Station to the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found out that two private buses that were parked on the side of the road were involved in fire.

One of the buses was fully involved, and the fire was spreading quickly towards the rear, where the second bus was parked closely by.

The swift actions of the firefighters who immediately began with firefighting operations helped to extinguish the fire and they successfully stopped it from spreading and further damaging the second bus which was affected only in the front, mainly on the windscreen and the mirrors, due to the strong radiant heat from the fire that was on the first bus,” said Mnguni.

In addition, Mnguni said that the South African Police Service arrived on the scene and assisted with incident management.“There were no injuries that were reported in this incident and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined,” explained Mnguni.
