EFF leader Julius Malema told thousands of his followers on Saturday at the FNB Stadium that allegations that the EFF was implicated in the VBS scandal was just to tarnish the party’s image.

Members of the party came in large numbers to the stadium to celebrate the EFF’s 10th Birthday Anniversary where Malema delivered his speech.

“They said they went to London and they had been bought by white people. That was the first imagery scandal they did. We defeated that scandal of saying we are bought by London because everything we are doing has got nothing to do with London. It has everything to do with Africa and with Africans because we exist for Africans.

“After they failed with the London scandal they said EFF had looted the VBS. They stole VBS money until today there is no leader of the EFF who is being investigated for VBS. No leader of the EFF is arrested for VBS. No leader of the EFF is in court because of the VBS. They wanted to use the VBS to destroy the EFF and once more they failed” he added.

In March this year, Brian Shivambu, the brother of EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu got an adverse judgment against him when the North Gauteng High Court granted the South African Revenue Service (Sars) a provisional liquidation order.

Sars said Brain owed money for unpaid taxes for gratuitous payments he received from the defunct VBS Mutual Bank.

Malema said the party has managed to survive a decade after many attacks on its reputation and “staff riders ” who thought they would kill the organisation.
