The West Indies have defeated South Africa by 30 runs in their second T20 match at the Brian Lara Academy in Torouba, Trinidad.

The Islanders are now leading the series 2-0, after they won last week’s first match, leaving the Proteas to only play for pride in the last match on Tuesday.

The host were asked to bat first and registered a total of 179 for six in their innings.

In reply, the Proteas were bowled out for 149 in 19.4 overs.

The West Indies bowling attack was led by the Player of the Match Romario Shepherd for his three wickets for 15 runs in four overs.

Reeza Hendricks had a good start for the Proteas, managing several boundaries in the powerplay, before he was dismissed at 44 runs from 18 balls.

The team however collapsed after Hendricks dismissal, ensuring that the West Indies win the series.

Proteas captain Aiden Markram attributed the loss to their performance in the middle overs.

“It is in the middle overs where we lost the match.

They bowled really well in the back end of the middle overs.

They made scoring tough for us. This is a learning moment for us as a squad,” said Markram.

The host now lead South Africa 2-0 in the three-match series and will meet in the final match on Tuesday.
